Pura
Ulun danu also at Candikuning, a few km north of Bedugul, and actually
projecting into the lake, is the Hindu / Buddhist temple of Pura
Ulun Danu, it's very picturesque, with a large bayan tree at the
entrance, attractive gardens and one courtyard isolated on a tiny
island in the lake. The temple founded in the 17th century, is dedicated
to Dewi Danau, the goddess of the waters. it is the focus of ceremonies
and pilgrimages to ensure the supply of water. Ulu Danau has classical
Hindu thatched-roof merus and an adjoining Buddhist stupa. There
are the usual admission and parking charges.
If you continue to lake Buyan, there's a fine walk around the southern
side of Buyan, then over the saddle to the adjoining, smaller Lake
Tamblingan. From there you can walk uphill, then west to the village
of Munduk ( about two to three hours ) and then take the road around
the northern side of the lakes back to Bedugul. Alternatively, you
can follow the road west from Munduk, and then north, descending
through picturesque villages to seririt on the north coast.
