Kapal Village Ecotourism

Kapal Village is one of  traditional village in Bali, it is part of Mengwi District in Badung Regency, located about 2 Km from the governance center in Sempidi, Kapal village is a lowland area with its regional contour tend to be flat, some river stream passing through its area, which some of them are irrigating canal for agriculture. Its area covered about 5.62 km2, and the number of its resident reaches 10.754 person (per June 2008), its region mostly are rice field  and settlement, some of it also used as industrial area which is small-medium scale industry/home industry Technology is quiet familiar things in this village life and their economic growths were fast developed, but as a traditional people they didn’t leave their tradition and local custom. As generally in any traditional villages in Bali, Kapal village people live in a community which is full of mutual assistance and familiarity, divided in smaller society groups structure called " Banjar ", and there are 18 banjar in Kapal village. The people embrace Hindu as their religion, mostly are farmers and some of them works as merchant and entrepreneur of small industry majoring in producing of concretes products, wood arts, handicrafts and traditional clay pottery.
The transition life between traditional - modern and agrarian - industry hold a big potency in conserving the village in cultural and also environmental context as a traditional village that stand up from cultural joints , religious way of life and also local wisdom, a today’s Bali identity.
 The history of how this village developed is strongly connected with the existence of Pura’s ( Balinese Hindu’s temples ) in this village, there are 36 Temples spread all over its area. These temples kept the history records from the age of the Bali Aga era or PreHindu period and during The Majapahit period around A.D. 1200 until today.
One of these temples is the Purusadha temple which is the biggest temple in the village, in this temple can be found history record concerning the development of the civilization in Kapal village in the forms of ancient palm leaf manuscripts, megalithic statues and also in the form of its architecture. Before the influence of Hinduism in Bali, there were already developed an advance civilization (the Bali Aga period) with its animism believed in Kapal village, and then the Hinduism gave its influence brought by the Majapahit when they conquered Bali, but these new culture didn’t totally replaced the culture that already existed, there were  a  harmonious cultural-religious blend happened, a mix between these two unique custom which later creates an unique culture that fulfilled with local custom and wisdom as one of the most important elements that creating Bali as we can see today, a civilization with unique culture which cannot be found in any other part of the world.
